Remarks
by Mr. Frank Savage
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Howard
University
|
Thank you, President Swygert,
and good morning to all of you.
This is truly a very special days in the
history and life of Howard University. We’re
delighted that you’re here to share with us
the dedication of the Louis Stokes Health
Sciences Library.
You all can see how wonderfully beautiful and
functional this library is. It certainly adds
to the existing beauty of Howard University.
The interesting thing about this building is
that the man to my left and behind me is the
one for whom the building is named and someone
whom we can not thank enough for all he has
done for Howard over so many years during his
service in Congress. You’ll be hearing a lot
more about that.
But a measure of the man is in a discussion
that we just had on this stage this morning.
When I went over to him to shake his hand and
greet him, he said to me, “Oh, boy, how much
Howard has done for me.”
And I said, “Wow! Can you imagine him saying
how much Howard has done for him?”
I don’t know how to tell you how much you have
done for Howard.
Congressman Stokes has always been a stalwart
supporter of Howard University. No building,
no monument could ever adequately express how
much appreciation we have for the support that
he has given us. But we will try to shower him
today with a lot of compliments in any event.
So, again, I just want to say, on behalf of
the Board of Trustees, thank you all very much
for being here today and we look forward to
having a wonderful ceremony.
With that, I’ll bring President Swygert back
to the podium.
Thank you.
