What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

“Interlibrary loan is the process by which a library requests materials from, or supplies materials to, another library.”  (American Library Association, ALA Interlibrary Loan Code, 1993 > http://www.ala.org/rusa/stnd_lnc.html.

There are two components of interlibrary loan services: ILL Borrowing, and ILL Lending. The Borrowing unit borrows materials from other academic libraries and institutions, while the Lending unit lends Howard University materials to other academic libraries and institutions.
